Identity Crisis

Your Identity as a Christian is extremely important. Do you know what would happen if you tried to execute God’s Word, will and Authority without having your identity in Christ established?

You would get repeat of Acts 19:13-16!

In Acts 19:13-16, the Jewish folks had no idea who Jesus was! They only knew that Paul preached about him and casted devils out in his name.

They had no identity in Christ. You could say that they were having and Identity Crisis! So when they tried it to cast the devil out of a person, it turned on them and overcame them.

We don’t want a repeat of this, so we need to be sure our identity is rooted deeply in the word of God!

What does it mean to “root” yourself in the word of God? Well let’s take a look at 1 John 1 – In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

It goes on to say in verse 14 that the “Word” became flesh and made his dwelling among us”.

Did you catch that? The “W” in word is capitalized because it is talking about a person! It’s talking about Jesus! The bible just told us that Jesus is the Word and that he is also God, who made himself a living being just like us!!

So, when you root yourself in the Word of God, you are rooting yourself in Jesus!

It gets better! Did you know that 1 John 4:16 says that God is “Love” and if you abide (walk) in Love you also abide in God? More importantly, God will also abide in you!

How does this affect your identity in Christ? Well if your rooting yourself in the Word, your rooting yourself in Jesus. Right?

Now if you are also abiding in Love, your abiding (rooting) yourself in God and he is also abiding in you.

So, if you’re in rooted in Christ, rooted in God and rooted in love, what does that mean?

Well according to Ephesians 3:16-21, your spirit will be strengthened with might by the Holy Spirit, which means you are walking in the fullness of God and his power!

1 John goes on to say that if we walk in this manner, God’s love will be perfected in us and that we can walk in the full assurance and Boldness Jesus Christ!

One last thing…since God’s love is perfected in us, Galatians 5:6 tells us that we will have an explosion of faith! Why?

Because FAITH WORKS THROUGH LOVE!!

AMEN!
